COMMITTEE REPORTS

Drama/Lecture/Poetry

Reggie Barall received a letter from the Mayor that she was reappointed for a 5 year term

ending in 2018 and that she was required to be sworn in by the clerk at town hall. Reggie

was sworn in and asked the clerk if she could look through the records for the Fine Arts

Commission to check when she was initially approved. She received a phone call saying she became a board member in 1973 and has reached her 40 year anniversary. The Commission congratulated Reggie.

Dance: Reggie reported on the Black History program that was held at the East Hat1ford

Culture Center on February 17, 2013. The New Covenant United Methodist Church and the Anointed Tabernacle Church partnered with Circle of Life and their singers and poetry writers perfol1ned in the program. Because of the partnership over 100 guests were in attendance. The pastors from both churches have expressed an interest in pat1nering again next year because the program was so professional and enjoyed by the audience.  Reggie has been asked to meet with the pastors well in advance to plan the next event.

Reggie reported that April in Paris will be on April 7. From 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Auditions have been completed and the DJ has been chosen. She is looking forward to the program because she has not done it for a few years. Various followers have called and asked her when she was doing another town wide April in Paris.

Children's Programs: Reggie reported that the Willowbrook program is completed for this year. She will meet with the new principal this summer to discuss the day and time the principal would like so the Fine Arts can offer this program again this coming school year. It is one of the best classes in dance/movement for pre school students in East Hartford. It is educationally bases and teaches children how to count, pay attention and follow directions. The program ends with a performance for the parents of the children.

Reggie reported on Children's Program for Raymond Library during April vacation. The programs have to be in Circle of Life's dance studio because the Raymond Library is under construction and moving into the East Hartford Cultural Center in Mayor June.

The program will be on April 17 and 18 from 1:00 pm to 2:00pm. There will be a snack time until 2:30. Circle of Life will provide the snacks and beverages. It is a parents and children program but it was decided that parents that have to work can drop off their children and pick them up. Yoga Ancient Dance moves will be taught. The age of the children is from 7 and up.

A motion was made and seconded by Prescille Yamamoto and Susan Tukey to sponsor the Library Program in the amount of $1,000 for the April program.

Reggie stated that she would like to offer another program this summer because last summer's library program was such a huge success. There is $500 left in the budget item for children's programs after the $1,000 is expended. Prescille Yamamoto suggested that we table the second program until our May meeting.

Music: A piano performance by Paul Bisaccia is scheduled for May 19th at the First Church.
